Role: Head of Aviation - Audit & Compliance
When did you join Wiltshire Air Ambulance? I joined in May 2014
Tell us a little about your role: I am assisting the Charity in the transition from the current aviation arrangements (an operation shared with Wiltshire Police out of Devizes) to a separate and independent one based on a brand new helicopter delivered by a provider which is experienced, albeit relatively new to this type of activities. In addition to that, the Base arrangements are also going to be different in the medium term and this poses additional challenges to the Charity.
What is your background/training? Education wise I have a BSc/MSc in Marine Sciences and an MSc Finance. I went through the Italian Naval Academy and the US Navy Naval Air Training School.
Career wise, I have been a commissioned officer and a pilot for many years in the Italian Navy. I then moved on to run a number of aviation companies, including an Air Ambulance operator. I currently have an interest in a technology company and I am a lecturer at a Business School. I also have the privilege to Chair the Hampshire branch of the Institute of Directors. I keep an active interest in the aviation sector through academic research and consultancy work.
What do you love most about your job? I have grown and developed professionally in the helicopter sector, in a highly competitive business dimension. But the charitable approach is fundamentally different and I have never had the opportunity to work alongside such an inspirational team of hugely committed individuals.
Tell us an interesting fact about yourself: The only interesting fact about me is my wonderful wife and our four children.
