A very appreciative audience on Tuesday,
12th February at the Central Methodist Church in Monkton Hill, Chippenham,
one of the main local venues for the practical examinations of the
Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, once again thoroughly
enjoyed a very varied programme of music provided by some thirty
plus young musicians chosen from those gaining distinctions in their
recent practical examinations in our area.
This popular event in the calendar on this occasion was in aid
of the Wiltshire Air Ambulance represented through Lesley Duncan
with the Mayor, Councillor Sandra Oakes, also in attendance. The
event was again organised and presented by Sylvia Stables, the Honorary
Local Representative of the Associated Board.
The celebratory nature of the evening provided a rich variety
of music and skilful playing for the audience to truly enjoy.
Splendid tonal effects and diversity were evident from the soothing
sounds of the guitar, mellow euphonium, the voice, violin and piano
playing together with the clarinet, saxophone, flute, recorder and
trumpet playing, some very accomplished indeed. |
The genre of the music equally had great
variety to offer with the jazz idiom increasingly popular with many
of the students.
To be witness to the high and progressing standard of our younger
generation seeking to capture the mood of their chosen music and
to perform so successfully in front of an audience is indeed a reassurance
for our future.
The evening concluded with the presentation of lapel badges to
each performer by Lesley Duncan. Thanks were given to the
Church, the helpers, the accompanists also the friends, relations,
teachers and audience from our local community for whom it was truly
a delight to attend.
The evening raised over £450 towards the Wiltshire Air Ambulance
Appeal. |

Langley Tap raised a staggering £1,565.00 for the Wiltshire
Air Ambulance Appeal from the chef having his head shaved and the
pub placing a large empty whisky bottle on the bar.
A
cheque was given to Mary Laing; Appeal Administrator at the pub
after the bottle was emptied and counted.
Pub
tenant Peter Dixon is pictured with Mary Laing, the evening was
well supported by locals who had also raised money by donating to
guess the amount in the bottle, I was completely staggered by the
amount in the bottle and would like to thank Peter, Vandella &
all the staff & Customers for raising such a wonderful amount
that will help to keep the air ambulance flying for the people of
Wiltshire.

Longleat
Butterfly House
A cheque presentation on Wednesday 11th April
was made to the Wiltshire Air Ambulance by Longleat Butterfly House.
The butterfly house has a pond within it and members of the public
have been throwing coins into in and each year it is emptied and
the contents given to our charity.
When we receive the coins we clean them up; after
being in the pond for a year they do get a bit dirty; and take them
to the bank. This year the donation amounted to £859.50, it
was really lovely to go to the butterfly house & see the tremendous
array of butterflies that Longleat houses.
Pictured are Paramedic Bruce Jarvis with a large
butterfly on his right shoulder & Derek Longuet manager of the
butterfly garden.
The Wiltshire Air Ambulance needs to raise around
£350,000.00 per year to keep the helicopter flying for the
people of Wiltshire. We are extremely grateful to Derek & the
staff at Longleat for supporting us again this year and would like
to thank them for inviting us to visit the butterfly house and donating
this amount to our appeal.

Wiltshire
Air Ambulance Fund Raiser
In memory of Michelle Phillips
Friday 19th January 2007 and the crowds were flocking to Melksham
Assembly Hall where local couple John and Sandra Phillips had organised
their third fund raiser for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance, in memory
of their daughter Michelle. There was a return booking for the Zig
Zag Band who were delighted to be invited back again after their
enjoyable performance a year ago.
The evening kicked off with the band performing a lively rock 'n'
roll set and the dancers of all ages were up on their feet from
the very first notes of "Roll Over Beethoven." The band,
resplendent in their new colourful "Teddy Boy" drapes,
were having great fun on stage and their energy, enthusiasm and
the happy atmosphere seemed to be mirrored in the audience. |
At
half time there was an envelope raffle and then an auction of some
really special donated items. The "Shakin' Stevens" Tour
shirt and signed photograph raised an amazing £65 and the
Hercules Flight Simulator experience at RAF Lyneham raised £280
which was absolutely brilliant!
After
this the Zig Zag Band took to the stage again with their popular
mix of 60's and 70's hits which kept the crowd on the floor enjoying
the rest of the evening. This included a rendition of "Bakers
Street" by saxophonist (and vocalist!) Pat D'Arcy who was welcomed
on board this evening for his first performance as the band's new
regular sax player. We hardly recognised him under his "Elvis"
wig!!!
John and Sandra wish to say a huge thank you to everyone who made
donations, or helped in any way with the event, not forgetting Dan
from Definitive Disco who kept the evening flowing and linked the
proceedings together with his mix of music. We have heard that the
evening raised £1,500 which is a fantastic addition to the
£7,200 already raised by John and Sandra for the appeal. The
big question is......will they do this again next year??? Watch

Nathaniel
Roberts
Many
I thank you again for the lovely selection of Teddy bears that the
Freemasons kindly gave to the Wiltshire Air Ambulance to keep on
board the helicopter to give out to young & distressed people
to assist in their recovery & fears in flight.
The
teddy bears are well received by all the crew here and they have
assisted in airlifting frightened and injured people to hospital
on a few occasions by giving them something else to concentrate
on for a short period of time.
|
The
attached picture is of Mrs Roberts & her 1 week old son Nathaniel
who was delivered near the Air Ambulance unit last week by Paramedic
Bruce Jarvis who flies on board the helicopter. Bruce was called
out to assist in the delivery of baby Nathaniel after his mother
was unable to get to the hospital in time so the baby was delivered
by Bruce in a car.
We gave one of your lovely teddy bears to Nathaniel after Mrs Roberts
came to thank Bruce for his expertise & professionalism yesterday
and both mother & baby are doing well.
Once
again many thanks for your support we really appreciate your hard
work. |

Becky
Hackett
Many thanks for your letter. We were only too pleased to help in
raising funds - in some small way - to help keep the service in
the air. We know what a vital role the helicopter and the dedicated
crew play in search and rescue around Wiltshire; plus of course
the dedicated people behind the scenes who work to keep the Air
Ambulance in the spotlight. It is sincerely hoped that the Wiltshire
Air Ambulance will be allowed to work as it has been doing, and
the service will not have to be integrated with neighbouring regions.
I have attached a pic of Becky during her jump, and I can tell you
that she had that smile on her face all the way down! and on the
way home! Please feel free to use the photo in any way you see fit. |

The
Wiltshire School of Gymnastics
The
Wiltshire School of Gymnastics donated £1,500.00 for the Wiltshire
Air Ambulance Appeal in October 2006. This staggering amount was
raised by having a 1 week of fundraising where all the children
who attended and took part did a sponsored circuit during their
classes.
They
were such a delightful group to meet and having raised such a vast
amount for the charity we would all like to say well done to you
all.
